The Road to Overlook - Eleint 10th Cfbaa4f8615346c3a019da0f883d2bdd H 66/L 46, winds out of the north at 45 mph, ¾” of rain

Patrols Today: A4
Captain Aito travels from Silverymoon to Rock Hammer
Captain Ensyer travels from Rock Hammer to Cholnudon
Captain Thulver travels from Rock Hammer to Silverymoon
Captain Dominic defends Rock Hammer

After purchasing a few healing potions and something for the barbarian (I can’t remember what it was) the group heads east up the Silverymoon Pass towards Overlook.

As the trail ascended the Nether Mountains the heroes came to a series of switchbacks. Up ahead they saw a woman trapped up an overturned wagon that was quickly catching on fire. Sure enough it was a trap set by a clever band of orcs. After she was rescued they discovered that the orcs had ambushed the wagon hours ago and killed everyone else but her. When they spotted the group approaching they tied her to the wagon and set it on fire in hopes of catching the group off-guard.

They all bore the symbol of King Obould Many-Arrows.

By early evening the group reached Overlook.

Quote :
Overlook stands on the western slopes of the Nether Mountains, as city of stone to the dwarves that built it centuries ago. Overlook has since outgrown its dwarven roots and is now a haven for peoples all over the Silver Marches and beyond. The city boasts a population of over 12,000 and contains nine distinct districts within its walls.

As they entered they were ushered, along with several other adventuring groups, to the High Hall were they mingled for a bit and met some other groups:

Free Riders – They’ve already met (led by Megan Swiftblade)
The Green Hand – Arcane heavy group from Waterdeep (led by Knowshon)
Company of Wolves – Rangers that look like bandits (led by Savaris Moss)
The Slayers – Mostly fighter-types, ex-military (led by Dexter Coakley)
The Glorious Defenders – a very arrogant but skilled group (led by Edgar Somerfield)

Elder Cadrick had this speech to give:

Quote :
Welcome to the High Halls friends. I am elder Cadrick. I don’t much see the point in bandying words, so I’ll lay it out for you. War is upon us. A great host of orcs comes from the north. Their intention is clear. They will come through the mountains bent on slaughter. Those they spare can look forward to a short life of slavery. Overlook and Bordrin’s Watch in the mountains, have long held fast against these raids, but our scouts say never has such an army gathered. Thus, we turn to you brave souls to help defend not only Overlook, but also the Silver Marches.

When the orcs arrives, we’re certain they will come up through the pass. We know this because already there have been attacks from the tunnels below. The defenders have fought back the savages, but it’s clear the rest are coming and fast.

So here’s the plan. Durkik Forgeheart will lead the militias and most of you to bolster Bordrin’s Watch. Orc trailblazers infest the tunnels below, so we’ve tasked their security to the Glorious Defenders. One more mission remains, though. We need a group to evacuate the monastery south of here. It’s dangerous work, what with the orcs and all, but the priests need a warning of what’s coming if they don’t know already.

Do we have any volunteers?
The group volunteered and Edgar Somerfield angrily spoke with Cadrick for a few moments after the meeting before storming off. Cadrick later explained that the Glorious Defenders had earlier negotiated for the job with the most danger and glory.

The heroes rested for the night in Overlook before heading out to the Monastery of the Sundered Chain.
